Shockwave Therapy in Etobicoke

Shoulder Examination Closeup

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic pulses delivered through a handheld device to stimulate tissue that has been slow to settle. Shockwave is commonly used for stubborn heel pain, including chronic plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tendinopathies, post-fracture and scar tissue.  Whether it suits you depends on your assessment, your history and your goals. InHealth Physiotherapy in Etobicoke offers it as part of a physiotherapy plan when it is suitable after an assessment.

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy sends high pressure, short acoustic pulses into the area that hurts. The pulses pass through a small applicator placed on the skin with gel. It is used as one part of a rehabilitation plan and is not a stand-alone fix. A plan also includes exercise, load management and education.

What happens in a session

  1. Your physiotherapist reviews your history and examines the area.

  2. Gel is applied and the applicator is moved over the sore area. You may feel a tapping sensation that can be uncomfortable. The intensity is adjusted to your tolerance.

  3. Further treatment may be provided, You receive exercises and advice on activity modifications if needed.

Some people feel soreness for a day or two afterward. Tell your physiotherapist about any concern.
