Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Etobicoke

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is specialized care for the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissue that support your bladder, bowel, and uterus. It is one of the most evidence-supported approaches for conditions ranging from urinary leakage and pelvic pain to postpartum recovery and perimenopause — yet many people live with these concerns for years before realizing that effective, non-invasive treatment exists.

At InHealth Physiotherapy, pelvic floor care is led by Manisha Hansra, a physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy, both from McMaster University, with over five years of focused specialization in pelvic health and women's health across all life stages.

Conditions we treat

Pelvic floor physiotherapy at InHealth can help people experiencing:

  • Urinary incontinence (leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or urgency)

  • Urinary urgency and frequency

  • Bowel incontinence or constipation

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic pain, hip pain, and low back pain with a pelvic floor component

  • Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)

  • Interstitial cystitis

  • Endometriosis-related pelvic pain

  • Diastasis recti abdominis (abdominal separation)

  • C-section recovery and post-hysterectomy care

  • Prenatal preparation, including birthing coaching, perineal massage guidance, and pushing technique education

  • Postpartum recovery and return-to-activity programs

  • Perimenopause and menopause pelvic health

These are not conditions you simply have to manage. Pelvic floor physiotherapy offers a structured, hands-on path to improvement for most of them.

What to expect

Your initial assessment with Manisha runs 45–60 minutes. You'll have a detailed conversation about your symptoms, history, and goals before any hands-on assessment. All internal assessments are optional — nothing happens without your informed consent, and the session is entirely led by what you are comfortable with.

Based on the assessment, Manisha builds a treatment plan tailored to your presentation. Treatment may include:

  • Internal and external manual therapy to address muscle tension, weakness, or coordination issues

  • Targeted therapeutic exercise — pelvic floor strengthening, relaxation, and functional retraining

  • Biofeedback to help you understand and connect with your pelvic floor muscles

  • Breathing and pressure management strategies

  • Education on bladder and bowel habits, posture, and self-care between sessions

Pregnancy and Postpartum care

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is an essential aspect of pregnancy care, helping to support the body through the changes it undergoes. It can alleviate discomfort, improve posture, and enhance well-being during pregnancy. Pregnancy-related pain is common, but it isn’t something you have to live with. Our physiotherapists support you in managing pelvic, hip, and low back pain safely and effectively. By focusing on strengthening and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles, you can prepare for labour and promote a smoother recovery postpartum. We collaborate with you and your birthing partner to guide perineal massage, optimal birthing positions, effective pushing techniques and comfort measures tailored to each stage of labour.

Feeling unsure after your six-week postpartum visit? We’re here to help! We tailor your treatment plan to promote a safe return to daily activities & exercise while addressing common postpartum concerns such as leakage, diastasis rectus abdominis, muscle pain & weakness, pelvic pain, and scar recovery.
