Do I need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy?

No referral is required. You can book physiotherapy, pelvic floor therapy, pediatric physiotherapy, or massage therapy directly. Some insurance plans may request a referral for reimbursement.

Does your clinic offer pelvic floor physiotherapy?

Yes. We provide pelvic floor physiotherapy for pregnancy and postpartum recovery, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, prolapse symptoms, and core rehabilitation.

Do you provide postpartum physiotherapy?

Yes. We help with back pain, pelvic pressure, diastasis recti, C-section scar tightness, and other postpartum concerns.

Is pediatric physiotherapy available?

Yes. We treat infants, toddlers, and children with delayed milestones, torticollis, toe-walking, coordination issues, sports injuries, and neurodevelopmental concerns.

How long is my first visit and what should I expect during my first physiotherapy appointment?

Your first visit includes a full assessment, diagnosis, movement analysis, and hands-on treatment. You will also receive personalized exercises during the first session. Initial assessments are 45-60 minutes, and follow-up treatments are 30-45 minutes, depending on your condition.

Do you accept WSIB and motor vehicle accident (MVA) claims?

How long does it take to see results from physiotherapy?

Most patients notice improvement within 3-5 sessions, depending on the condition and severity.

Is shockwave therapy available at your clinic?

Yes. We offer shockwave therapy for chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, calcific tendonitis, and stubborn muscle pain. It accelerates healing and reduces inflammation.

Does OHIP cover physiotherapy?

In limited situations only, such as some hospital and community programs for eligible groups.

Can I get publicly funded physiotherapy in Ontario?

Some people qualify through funded programs. Ask your doctor, Ontario Health atHome or a community clinic what is available to you.

How do I find out if my insurance covers physiotherapy?

Can I use my benefits for a family member?

What should I wear to my first physiotherapy appointment?

What is shockwave therapy?

It uses acoustic pulses delivered through a handheld device to stimulate sore tissue, usually as part of a rehabilitation plan.

Does shockwave therapy hurt?

It can feel uncomfortable, like strong tapping. Your physiotherapist adjusts the intensity to what you can tolerate.

It is generally well tolerated, but it is not suitable for everyone. Your physiotherapist screens you first.

Can physiotherapy fix scoliosis?

Physiotherapy cannot replace medical care and we cannot promise to change a curve. It can support strength, mobility, posture and comfort.

Is scoliosis painful?

Many people have little or no pain. Some adults have back or hip discomfort that exercise and movement advice may help.

Can children with scoliosis see a physiotherapist?

Call 416-937-8237 to ask about your child's situation. A parent or guardian attends, and their doctor still leads any decision about monitoring or bracing.

Is exercise safe with scoliosis?

Most people can stay active. A physiotherapist shapes a plan around your curve and your goals.

How do I know if my ankle is sprained or broken?

You cannot be sure without an exam. Severe pain over the bones or inability to take four steps needs medical assessment.

Should I see a physiotherapist for an ankle sprain?

Many people do, especially when swelling and stiffness linger or the ankle feels unstable. Book an assessment to check.

How long does an ankle sprain take to heal?

It varies with severity. Your physiotherapist can give you an estimate after examining the ankle.

What causes Achilles tendon pain?

Common contributors include a sudden increase in activity, tight calves, footwear changes and hard surfaces.

Can I keep running with Achilles pain?

Sometimes with changes to load. Your physiotherapist advises after an assessment.

What is vestibular physiotherapy?

It is physiotherapy for dizziness, vertigo and balance problems linked to the inner ear, brain or neck. It uses assessment and exercise.

Can physiotherapy help with vertigo?

For some causes of vertigo, targeted exercises may help. Your physiotherapist will tell you whether your symptoms fit.

Can dizziness after a concussion be treated?

Many people with post-concussion dizziness are assessed and given a graded exercise plan.

Can a physiotherapist help with TMJ pain?

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

Some insurance plans ask for one, so check your plan. Your dentist may still need to check teeth, bite or a night guard.

Why does my jaw click?

Clicking is common and not always painful. If it is painful, catches or limits opening, have it assessed.

Can TMJ problems cause headaches or neck pain?

They can occur together because the jaw, neck and head muscles are closely linked.

Physiotherapy Direct Billing and Insurance

How insurance for physiotherapy works in Ontario

Most people pay for physiotherapy through one of three routes: an extended health plan from an employer or school, a claim with WSIB for a workplace injury, or an auto insurance claim after a motor vehicle accident. Some people pay out of pocket.

Each plan sets its own rules. Common ones include a yearly dollar limit, a limit on the number of visits, a percentage the plan pays, and a requirement that the therapist be registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. Your benefits booklet or your insurer's member portal shows your numbers.

Direct billing at InHealth

We provide direct billing to most insurance companies. That means we can often bill your plan for you, so you pay only the portion your plan does not cover. Whether this works for you depends on your plan and its rules,

Workplace injuries and car accidents

InHealth is listed in the WSIB Musculoskeletal Program of Care directory and provides direct billing to WSIB. We are also enrolled with HCAI for motor vehicle accident claims.
