How to Choose a Physiotherapist

choosing a physiotherapist starts with three checks: registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, experience with your type of problem, and a clear plan after your first assessment. You can also ask about billing, hours and location. Here are the questions worth asking any clinic you plan to visit.

Check registration

In Ontario, physiotherapists must be registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario to practise. The College keeps a public register where you can look up a name and see registration status. Registered massage therapists and chiropractors have their own colleges.

Ask about experience with your problem

Physiotherapy covers many areas: sport injuries, back pain, pelvic health, children, neurological conditions and more. Ask about a clinician's experience with problems like yours. At InHealth, for example:

  1. Kulwinder Saggi has more than 17 years of experience as a clincian.

  2. Prince Chopra has more than 8 years of experience in neurological, vestibular and concussion care.

  3. Manisha Hansra focuses on pelvic health and pregnancy care.

  4. Dr. Abhisek Bhatt is our dedicated chiropractor.

Ask what the first visit includes

A good first visit includes time to tell your story, a hands-on assessment, a clear explanation of what is going on, and a plan with next steps. Ask whether you will see the same physiotherapist each time.

Look for an active plan, not only passive care

Hands-on treatment can help, and most plans also include exercises, advice and a path to reduce visits over time. Ask how progress will be measured and when the plan will be reviewed.

Ask about billing and coverage

Ask whether the clinic can bill your insurer, handles WSIB or auto insurance claims, and what paperwork you will receive. At InHealth, we provide direct billing to most insurance companies. Direct billing depends on your plan, so enquire with your insurance provider.  InHealth is listed in the WSIB Musculoskeletal Program of Care directory and is enrolled with HCAI for motor vehicle accident claims. We are a private clinic and are not OHIP funded.
